Bespoke PV designed and installed this premium 11.7 kWp solar PV and 20.72 kWh battery storage system for a residential property in Purbrook, Hampshire.
The homeowner wanted a high-capacity renewable energy system capable of significantly reducing reliance on imported electricity while improving long-term energy resilience and operational flexibility.
The project was designed around both current and future household energy demand. In particular, the customer was planning the installation of a hot tub, which would substantially increase annual electricity consumption and place greater demand on the property’s energy system.
As a result, the installation was designed with a larger solar array and substantial battery capacity capable of supporting both everyday household usage and future electrification requirements.

20.72 kWh Fox ESS battery storage system designed to maximise solar self-consumption, reduce imported electricity usage and improve operational flexibility.
The system was configured with EPS (Emergency Power Supply) functionality, allowing selected household circuits to remain powered during grid outages.
Integrated monitoring technology provides visibility of solar generation, battery charging, household consumption and grid imports over time.
Designed to support both current usage and future household electrification.
This installation was carefully designed around both current and anticipated future household electricity demand.
The homeowner was planning the future addition of a hot tub, which would significantly increase annual electricity usage, particularly during evenings and winter months.
Rather than designing a system only around existing demand, the solar PV and battery storage installation was sized to provide greater long-term flexibility and future-proof the property against rising energy requirements.
This approach is becoming increasingly common as more homeowners plan for wider electrification, including electric vehicles, electric heating, battery storage optimisation and higher overall electricity consumption.
The battery system supports both energy resilience and lower-cost smart tariff optimisation.
The substantial 20.72 kWh battery storage system plays a central role in how the property now manages electricity usage.
During periods of strong solar generation, surplus electricity can be stored for later use, helping reduce imported electricity during evenings and peak demand periods.
The system was also configured with EPS (Emergency Power Supply) functionality. This allows selected circuits within the property to remain operational during grid outages, providing an additional layer of energy resilience and backup capability.
During winter months, the large battery capacity also provides another important benefit: off-peak grid charging.
By charging the battery overnight using lower-cost electricity tariffs and then using that stored electricity throughout the following day, the homeowner can further reduce winter electricity costs even during periods of reduced solar generation.
This combination of solar generation, battery storage and smart tariff optimisation creates a much more flexible household energy system than solar PV alone.
The system was designed around long-term energy control rather than simply short-term bill reduction.
A large proportion of the property's electricity demand can now be generated and stored on site.
EPS functionality helps maintain power to selected household circuits during grid outages.
Large battery capacity allows off-peak overnight charging using lower-cost electricity tariffs during winter periods.
The installation provides a strong foundation for future EV charging, hot tub usage and wider electrification.
Since installation, the system has significantly exceeded the original generation and savings projections thanks to strong solar generation, large-capacity battery storage and intelligent energy management.
Current system performance indicates savings of around £2,500 per year in reduced electricity costs.
Large battery capacity has allowed far more generated electricity to be used on site rather than exported to the grid.
The battery system can charge overnight on lower-cost tariffs during winter periods to further reduce electricity costs.
The system was intentionally designed around future increases in electricity usage, including planned hot tub installation and wider household electrification.
EPS backup functionality helps maintain power to selected household circuits during grid outages.
For larger homes, battery storage capacity can be just as important as solar panel capacity.
A well-sized battery system not only improves solar self-consumption, but can also support backup power capability, off-peak tariff optimisation and future increases in household electricity demand.
Increasingly, homeowners are viewing battery storage as part of a wider long-term energy strategy rather than simply an add-on to solar PV.
